About Us
The Almeter was introduced in the late 1960’s and the test method standardised in 1967 with the introduction of IWTO – 17, the Almeter is now considered the Textile industry standard for fibre length measurement.
To modernise the instrument, the Almeter AL100 was introduced in 1978.
This new machine used digital sampling of the measured signal, allowing the resulting measurements to be processed more accurately, in addition it made it possible to connect the Almeter to a Computer and Printer.
The last Almeter AL100 was manufactured in 1985 (35 years ago) and so in recent times it has been a challenge to service / repair these old machines because many of the original electronic components are now obsolete and many of the original Technicians have retired.
In addition wear and tear on the mechanical components of the instrument coupled with degradation of the electronics due to age has resulted in the Almeter AL100 is becoming less accurate.
At the end of the 1990’s USTER Technologies decided to withdraw its support for the Almeter AL100 and as by this time the majority of the Almeter AL100’s were used in the wool sector, the Woolmark Company undertook to modernise the Almeter AL100 to ensure continuity within the wool industry and in 2003 the Woolmark Technologies AL100ts was included in IWTO-17.
Unforturentley due to reliability and accuracy issues the Woolmark Technologies AL100ts it was never widely adopted by the Textile industry, in fact it became known as the “sleeping Almeter” in China, leaving the Textile industry to rely on the aging Almeter AL100.
However thanks to a dedicated and diligent team and after many years of development the Almeter AL2020 was finally IWTO-17 accredited at the IWTO Congress 2020.
At the same time RealTex UK Limited was formed to manufacture the Almeter AL2020 and exclusively distribute the instrument internationally.
We believe that the Almeter technology is now in safe hands and the Textile industry can again confidently rely on the Almeter technology for the next 30 years.
